Great Music Events Coming Up in August
APL is hosting several concerts during the month of August. Join us for some great live music by talented local musicians!
August 3 (Fri): Mike Grosshandler performs an acoustic sidewalk set at the Bach Branch starting at 5 pm. Grosshandler is the guitarist and singer for The Velmas and Above the Flood. He’ll do some originals and fun covers.
August 6 (Mon): The Dave Bates Plus Four Klezmer Band performs at the Bach Branch starting at 6:30 pm. The group plays traditional Jewish music and Yiddish songs for the whole family.
August 17 (Fri): Henry’s Rifle and Complicated Shirt play in the Garage Bands in the Garage concert seriesat the Main Library from 6 to 8 pm. The show takes place in the parking garage at the library’s Elk Street entrance. One-man country-blues band Henry’s Rifle is John Alfred Pipino on banjo, guitar, stomp box, harmonica, and vocals. The indie/post-punk sound of Complicated Shirt has been captured on several CDs in the last eight years, including “Instruments” in 2010. During the concert, we’ll have a garage sale with $1 CDs. Garage Bands t-shirts and tote bags will also be on sale.
August 18 (Sat): Alotta Sound performs at the Pine Hills Branch at 2 pm. The duo of Quency Rene on vocals and Diane Geddes on keyboard promise a “fun-filled eclectic-electric” performance.
August 22 (Wed): Sensemaya plays Latin jazz at the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch at 6 pm. The ensemble “fuses hot Latin dance rhythms with the cool sophistication of jazz improvisation” for an energetic get-up-and-dance concert.
All concerts are free and open to the public and are appropriate for music lovers of all ages.
