Pay Library Fines & Fees

We’re going FINE FREE in 2019!

Starting on January 1, 2019, we will eliminate late fines in an effort to decrease barriers and increase access for patrons.

Overdue books, DVDs, CDs, & audiobooks will no longer accrue late fines.  Previous late fines on patrons’ accounts will be waived.  Fines & fees will still be charged for non-returned, lost, or damaged items.  Museum passes, fishing poles, bike locks, WiFi hotspots, laptops, Playaways, musical instruments, & other items will continue to accrue late fees.

Details of the policy are being finalized prior to the January 1 implementation; please continue to check back for more information.  Updates will also be shared on our social media channels, as well as in our seven branches.

Please note that other libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System have different fee rates that will apply when you visit them.

How To Pay Fines & Fees At Your Library

Visit any neighborhood branch to pay library fines & fees. You may pay with cash, check, money order, Visa card, or MasterCard, and you will receive a receipt for your payment. If you find a lost item and return it within 60 days and you have your receipt, you may receive your money back, less the $5.00 maximum overdue fine. If the item is from another library, please speak with a staff member regarding payment procedure. Replacement copies of items are not acceptable.

Online Fine & Fee Payments

Fines can be paid online with the SmartPay system. Check our FAQs for more details about how SmartPay works.
