Pay Library Fines & Fees

If you keep your library items longer than your loan period, or if an item checked out to you is lost or damaged, you may be subject to additional fees. These fees can be paid in-person at any of our neighborhood branches.

Late fees for Albany Public Library are $0.25 per day per item, and the maximum late fee for any item is $5.00. Members with fees greater than $10.00 will need to pay their fees before checking out additional materials, renewing items, or using our public computers.

Overdue notices will be sent by mail or email; you can set your notification preferences at any circulation desk. Please note that other libraries in the Upper Hudson Library System have different fee rates that will apply when you visit them.

How To Pay Fines & Fees At Your Library

Visit any neighborhood branch to pay library fines & fees. You may pay with cash, check, money order, Visa card, or MasterCard, and you will receive a receipt for your payment. If you find a lost item and return it within 60 days and you have your receipt, you may receive your money back, less the $5.00 maximum overdue fine. If the item is from another library, please speak with a staff member regarding payment procedure. Replacement copies of items are not acceptable.

Online Fine & Fee Payments

Fines can be paid online with the SmartPay system. Check our FAQs for more details about how SmartPay works.
