Join us for the Albany Reads SUMMER READING CHALLENGE  |  June 23 – August 25, 2023

Read on your own, attend library programs, and get prizes!

Register for Summer Reading:

Ages 0-17: Visit your favorite branch, fill out a registration form, and receive a paper reading tracker.

Ages 18+: You have two registration options. (1) Visit a branch, fill out a registration form, and get a paper tracker. (2) Go to Goodreads online, create a free account, and join the “Albany Public Library Group.”


Reading Challenges and Prizes for Every Age:

Ages 0-4 | Growing Readers: Take the challenge and read 100 books to your preschooler during Albany Reads. Receive sidewalk chalk when you register, check in halfway through and receive a prize. Participants will receive bubbles once they complete 100 books!

Ages 5-17 | Children & Teens: Challenge yourself to read 10 hours or more this summer! Children and Teens can use their Albany Reads tracker to keep track of their reading in 15-minute increments. Prizes are given out at the 5-hour and 10-hour mark. Ready for more reading?…Challenge yourself to read 25-hours and receive an awesome t-shirt and the admiration of our librarians. 

Ages 18+ | Adults: Take the Albany Reads summer challenge and read 10 books in 8 weeks! Too much of a challenge? Track your pages read — 1,500 pages to complete the challenge.  At completion, adults can pick up an APL branded t-shirt! Don’t forget to check out our Goodreads group for book suggestions, to chat with fellow readers, and to get even more out of summer reading.
