Quadricentennial Lecture by Artist Len Tantillo Sept. 27
Rensselaer County artist Len Tantillo will present a lecture on “The Legacy of New Netherland: Dutch Influences on the Early Development of New York” at the Albany Public Library on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. The lecture, which will take place at the Main Library on 161 Washington Avenue, is free and open to the public. This program is part of Explore NY 400, a series of events across New York State celebrating Henry Hudson’s historic 1609 voyage up the Hudson River and discovery of Albany. Tantillo is celebrated for his beautiful paintings that depict the maritime history of the Hudson River. His work blends visual storytelling with a sense of adventure to share the rich history of Albany and the Hudson River. He received an honorary doctorate from Russell Sage College for contributions made by his artwork to public awareness of the maritime history of the Hudson River. In 2004, Tantillo was the subject of a national public television documentary called “Hudson River Journeys.” His latest artwork is part of a permanent exhibition of Dutch architecture in colonial America at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
