Learn About Local Connection to Christmas Classics on Dec. 19

December 3, 2018 | Adult Services

You can learn the “full story” about “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and the nation’s first Christmas card in a special Albany Archives program on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 pm at the Washington Ave. Branch.

Matt Malette, @AlbanyArchives creator and curator, will share the local history of these holiday classics. The first Christmas card in the United States was printed right here in Albany. “Twas the Night Before Christmas” was the inspiration for the first Santa Claus illustration, which appeared in a Troy newspaper in the 1830s.

The Albany Archives program is free and open to the public.
