Halloween Fun at APL Oct. 24-31

Albany Public Library is sharing the Halloween spirit with our friends in the community in a series of free programs and activities for kids and teens from Oct. 24 through Oct. 31.

Here’s a full list of the fun Halloween activities for youngsters scheduled at APL. All events are free and open to the public. 

Talk by “Scary Tales” Author James Preller

Oct. 24 (Sat) at 1-2:30 p.m. – Delaware Branch

Local author James Preller (“Scary Tales” series and “Jigsaw Jones” mysteries, among others for kids and teens) talks about the art of writing and reads selections from “Scary Tales.” For children and their families.

American Girl History Tour: Día de los Muertos

Oct. 26 (Mon) at 4:30-5:30 pm – Howe Branch

Learn about the “Day of the Dead” with the Howe Branch’s American Girl Doll, Josafina Montoya. Participants will also make memory boxes for special family members, and enjoy refreshments. Please call 472-9485 to register. For ages 6-11.

Zombie Apocalypse Scavenger Hunt

Oct. 28 (Wed) at 4-7 pm – Howe Branch

Teens can find out if they have what it takes to survive a zombie apocalypse in this scavenger hunt. They’ll have to avoid the zombies as they find the tools they need and head for the safe zone. Please call 472-9485 to register. For ages 12-17.

Haunted House Craft

Oct. 29 (Thurs) at 4-5 pm – North Albany Branch

Kids can make a haunted house craft to take home. For ages 6-11.

Trick-or-Treat Bag Craft

Oct. 30 (Fri) at 12-6 pm – Pine Hills Branch

Kids can drop in and decorate a bag they can use for trick-or-treating on Halloween. For ages 5-12.

Decorate a Pumpkin

Oct. 30 (Fri) at 3:30-4:30 pm – Pine Hills Branch

Kids can decorate a pumpkin to take home and display for Halloween. For ages 5-12.

Dracula Dentures Edible Craft

Oct. 30 (Fri) at 4-5 pm – North Albany Branch

Teens will use cookies, red frosting, and marshmallows to make edible “Dracula denture” treats. For ages 12-17.

Pre-School Pumpkin Patch Party

Oct. 31 (Sat) at 10 am-12 pm – Washington Ave. Branch

For the first hour, pre-schoolers will enjoy age-appropriate stories, crafts, giveaways, and refreshments. For the second hour, little ones will do a hands-on exploration of everything pumpkin with the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology (CMOST). Costumes are welcome. For ages 2-5.

Trick-or-Treat at North Albany

Oct. 31 (Sat) at 1-4:30 pm – North Albany Branch

Kids and teens can wear their Halloween costumes and stop by today to trick-or-treat in the library branch at the North Albany YMCA. For ages 16 and under.

Trick-or-Treat at Arbor Hill/West Hill

Oct. 31 (Sat) at 12-5 pm – Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch

Kids and teens can wear their Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat in the library. For ages 17 and under.

Halloween Celebration

Oct. 31 (Sat) at 2-3 pm – Bach Branch

Kids will enjoy scary stories, creepy games, and Halloween treats. Costumes are welcome. Please 482-2154 to register. For ages 6-12.

Halloween Party

Oct. 31 (Sat) at 2-4 pm – Delaware Branch

Kids can participate in games like the Creepy Crayon Walk, Mummy Race, and Witch Pitch, make crafts, decorate goodie bags, enjoy refreshments, and trick-or-treat in the library. Costumes are welcome. For ages 5-12.

Stephanie Simon is manager of APL's Communication and Creative Services Department, which provides content and information for the library's website, social media, publications, videos, podcasts, and other outlets. Stephanie also manages APL's public relations and marketing efforts.
