Help Us Keep the Free Tax Program Going at APL

September 13, 2018 | Library News

One of the most popular and valuable services provided at the library is the free income tax preparation program.

Every year more than 1,500 people get their taxes prepared for free at our Albany libraries with each of them receiving an average tax return of about $1,500.

This year, we need your help to keep the program alive at APL!

We have to find a local volunteer to coordinate the program at our library branches.

The volunteer coordinates the tax preparers from the AARP Tax-Aide and IRS VITA programs. The coordinator remotely manages the different sites and communicates routinely with the shift coordinators.

The tax program volunteer coordinator does NOT need to be an accountant or have experience preparing taxes. This person needs to be dedicated to the program, and have good organizational and communication skills.

There is ample training and support provided to the volunteer coordinator through the Tax-Aide and VITA programs.

More information is available by contacting Jerry Seeley at (518) 477-8181.

Please consider volunteering for the tax program and help us continue to provide this important service at APL. Thank you!
