In March, the Sunday Cinema series presents two films, each nominated for multiple Oscars. On Sunday, March 6, Albany Public Library will be showing The Social Network, nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Cinematography. On Sunday, March 20, The Fighter will be the main event, nominated also for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, and Best Directing. Showtime is 2:00 p.m. Shows are free and open to the public.

Albany Public Library proudly presents three iconic silent films with live, original scores performed by local musicians during the months of October and November. On Wednesday, October 20th, at 7:00 pm, the sci-fi classic Metropolis will be scored by Terry McClain, Chris Neuhaus, and Nathan Glass. On Wednesday, October 27th, at 7:00 pm, the original haunted house horror movie, The Cat and the Canary will be scored by Eric Halder, Scott Smith, and Sarah Clark. On Wednesday, November 10th, at 7:00 pm, the vertiginous thriller, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, will be scored by Space Lounge. For more information, please contact Sarah at 427-4349.

Stop by the Elk St. parking garage behind the Main library for some good old-fashioned garage rock on Friday, August 20 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Local Americana rock band, Grainbelt will open the show, followed by the gloriously loud Knyghts of Fuzz. Used and donated CDs, LPs, and videos will be available for purchase at the garage sale. On April 20th at 5:00 pm, Albany Public Library will open the doors to Bookends, a used book store at the Main Library. Bookends offers very gently used books for children and adults at fair prices. Hours of operation will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

The novel Push by Sapphire has always been popular at Albany Public Library, and now the world is talking about Precious, the film adaptation of the novel. Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire just won two Oscars at the Academy Awards, adding to the buzz about the film. Join us for a free presentation of Precious on Sunday, March 21, at 2:00 pm in the large auditorium. The film is free and open to the public.
