The Big Read is a month-long series of programs that brings together an entire community to read and discuss a single book. This November, The Big Read comes to Albany with the book “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien and includes an assortment of book discussions, films, performances, and exhibitions.
“The Things They Carried” is not just a story of the Vietnam War, although it is considered one of the finest books ever written about combat and its consequences. This award-winning book is a brutal, sometimes funny, often profound narrative about the human heart–how it fares under pressure and what it can endure.
APL has copies of the book to borrow. Get a copy and join us for one of several book discussions of “The Things They Carried.”
The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The partners bringing The Big Read to Albany are: The Albany Fund for Education, Albany Public Schools, and Albany Public Library.
