Coming Up This Week at APL

Lots of great events and activities at the library this week! Read on for a few of the highlights. As always, library events are free and open to the public.

MONDAY, SEPT. 17

 + Need help writing a resume, searching for a job, or updating basic computer skills? Visit the Working Knowledge Public Computing Center at the Main Library for one-on-one assistance from 9 am til 5 pm. For more info, call 427-4325.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 18

+ Assemblyman Jack McEneny reviews “A Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” at 12:15 pm in the large auditorium of the Main Library. The book, written by Doris Kearns Goodwin, is the basis for a new Steven Spielberg movie. This is a Friends of APL event.

+ Have you read “Radioactive: Marie and Pierre Curie, A Tale of Love and Fallout” by Lauren Redniss? Discuss it with our nonfiction book group at 7 pm in conference room #1 (second floor) of the Main Library.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 19

+ Need help figuring out how to get ebooks onto your Kindle, Nook or tablet? Attend our library ebook and audiobook Q & A session from 2 to 3:30 pm in the computer lab at the Main Library. We’ll teach you how to check out, download, and transfer digital books. Please register at 427-4303.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 20

+ It’s an “Angry Birds Afternoon” at the Howe Branch today. Starting at 4:15 pm, kids ages 6-12 can play a life-sized version of the game by launching plush birds at the cowardly pigs hiding in the castle walls.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 21

+ The Albany Symphony Orchestra provides a sneak peak of its show in this special Vanguard prevue performance starting at noon in the large auditorium of the Main Library.

+ It’s your last chance to check out the Garage Bands in the Garage concert series this year. Alta Mira and Giles Bennett & The Petrified Woods perform in this free, all-ages show. Runs from 6 to 8 pm in the parking garage off the Elk Street entrance of the Main Library. Check out the CD garage sale (items just $1) too. For more info, call 427-4349.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 22

+ Knitters and crocheters meet and work on projects at the Bach Branch from 2 til 3:30 pm and at the Pine Hills Branch from 2 to 4 pm.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 23

+ Enjoy an afternoon at the movies with a showing of “Think Like a Man” starting at 2 pm in the large auditorium at the Main Library. Steve Harvey’s relationship advice causes trouble for four couples. (2102, PG-13)
