Enjoy Live Music at the Library

There’s a lot of great musical talent in the Capital Region and APL is proud to showcase local artists. We’ve got several FREE musical performances scheduled in the coming weeks. Take time to stop by and enjoy the shows. You won’t be disappointed!

Marty McDermott and Tom Holland — Friday, Sept. 14

5 pm at the Delaware Branch

Guitarist McDermott and drummer Holland founded local band The Reverberators. The pair brings that band’s rock/blues/rockabilly sound to the library in a stripped-down acoustic set.

Vanguard-Albany Symphony Orchestra — Friday, Sept. 21

12 pm at the Main Library (large auditorium)

Enjoy a preview performance by the ASO. The orchestra’s first performance of the season features Tchaikovsky’s epic Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto.

Alta Mira and Giles Bennett & The Petrified Woods — Friday, Sept. 21

6 pm at the Main Library (garage off Elk Street)

Alta Mira has several albums of “sturdy pop-rock for the chronically self-conscious,” including this spring’s “I am the Salt.” Country-rock Giles Bennett & The Petrified Woods formed on a dare and is playing its first shows. This Garage Bands in the Garage concert is a free, all ages show in the parking garage off the Main Library’s Elk Street entrance. During the concert, we’ll have a garage sale with $1 CDs. T-shirts and tote bags for the award-winning concert series will be on sale too. For more information, call 427-4349.

Patti Melita and Nat Phipps — Wednesday, Oct. 3

6 pm at the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch

Singer Melita and pianist/vocalist Phipps entertain with a rousing jazz performance.

Monica Roach Trio — Saturday, Oct. 20

2 pm at the Pine Hills Branch

This contemporary jazz trio is headed by Roach, who has been playing cello and bass for more than 30 years.
