Visit the Library This Week for Great Programs
There’s lots to do at your Albany libraries this week: live music, arts and crafts workshops, computer help, games, and fun. Here are just a few of the programs we’ve got in store for you:
MONDAY, JULY 23
+ Live Harp Music: The Bach Branch hosts a performance by harpist Lucy McCafferty at 6:30 pm
+ Bedtime Story Time: Children in pre-K through fifth grade (and their families) enjoy a fun night time story starting at 7 pm at the Pine Hills Branch.
TUESDAY, JULY 24
+ Review of “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain: The Friends of APL host this informative book review starting at 12:15 pm at the Main Library. The book details the love story between Ernest Hemingway and his wife. The reviewer is Mary Valentis, University at Albany professor of English.
+ Jelly Bean Tasting: Kids ages 5-12 can taste-test jelly beans at the Pine Hills Branch at 3 pm.
+ DANA Farmers Market: The Delaware Branch hosts the market from 4 to 7 pm in the parking lot behind the building.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 25
+ Job Search and Computer Skills Help: Drop in to the Main Library’s Public Computing Center from 9 am to 12 pm and 3 to 5 pm for one-on-one help with job searches, resumes, and basic computer skills. For more information, call 427-4325.
+ Wii Gaming: Kids ages 11-18 enjoy Wii games with their friends in the Main Library children’s room from 2 to 4 pm.
+ Merengue Dance Lessons: Teens and adults ages 14+ can learn how to dance the merengue at the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch starting at 6 pm.
THURSDAY, JULY 26
+ Fruit and Veggie Sculptures: Kids ages 5-18 learn to make (and eat) sculptures out of nutritious fruits and vegetables from the Honest Weight Food Co-op. The interactive presentation starts at 3 pm at the Delaware Branch.
+ Ecological Center Tour: Join the Howe Branch at 4 pm and take a tour of the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center in the South End. The tour is for all ages, but you must register at 472-9485.
FRIDAY, JULY 27
+ Make Something with Home Depot: Kids ages 7-18 use their hands and simple tools to make a wooden craft to take home. The workshop starts at 3 pm at the Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch.
+ Picture Book Craft: Kids ages 3-7 make fun picture books at the North Albany Branch from 3 to 5 pm.
SATURDAY, JULY 28
+ Adult Art Group: Explore your inner artist from 2 to 3:30 pm at the Bach Branch.
