APL Helps Kids Take Action For the Environment
The Albany Public Library and the Honest Weight Food Co op present an event designed to engage children in caring for their environment. On Saturday, December 9 from 10 am to 3 pm at the Main Library Saving Home: Kids Take Action For the Environment will celebrate children’s power to positively impact their local communities and ecosystems.
Families with children of all ages are welcome to enjoy the activities, displays, and refreshments. This day-long event features upstate author Lee Welles reading from Gaia Girls Enter the Earth, the first novel in her new eco-adventure series for 9 to12 year olds. Besides the Gaia Girls, the Community Gardens of the Capital District will be present, with free seeds and nutrition information for kids. The George Landis Arboretum will have a display and a demonstration of making bird feeders with pinecones. Patrick Blum and his 10-year-old daughter Samantha will give a short presentation on how they helped make the Lisha Kill Sports Complex an Audubon Sanctuary and will talk about their work monitoring bluebird-nesting boxes.
Some of the other organizations participating in the event are: Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, Audubon International, the Nature Conservancy, Cornell cooperative Extension, H.
