Our second annual SummerFest at the Delaware Branch on Saturday was a wonderful success! We estimate more than 1,500 kids and their families participated in the free fun at the library in celebration of the Summer Reading Program.
The Delaware parking lot and patio were turned into a carnival of games, activities, music, and refreshments. Outside, kids bounced to their hearts’ content, practiced their basketball skills, hula hooped, created chalk artwork on our sidewalk, danced and grooved to the music, enjoyed cookies and watermelon, watched a magic show, and cooled off in the misting tent. Inside, children and their families sampled all the wonderful books, DVDs, and other materials available at the library.
And since we were celebrating the Summer Reading Program, it was extra special to see so many children in line to sign up for this great program. The program keeps kids’ literacy skills up during the summer months by rewarding them for reading books of their choosing. It also provides dozens of free educational and entertaining activities for kids to participate in every week.
Much of the day’s activities and entertainment were donated. Many thanks to our generous SummerFest sponsors and donors: Price Chopper, Stewart’s Shops, Tri-City ValleyCats, Air Craft DJ Services, Albany Salsa, and Friends of Albany Public Library.
