Programs at APL on Veterans Day

All locations are open on Veterans Day (Monday, Nov. 11), and we have several programs planned for those of you who are off from work and school that day. A full activity listing is on our online calendar. Here are a few of the programs scheduled for Nov. 11.

Watch the Parade from Main’s Sidewalk

Albany’s Veterans Day Parade starts at 11 am on Central Avenue, but the sidewalk in front of the Main Library on Washington Avenue is a great viewing spot. After you honor our country’s veterans, you can stop into the library and check out some books and DVDs. We have a wide selection of materials about our country’s military history.

Special Talk by US Veteran Martin Becker — 2 pm at Bach Branch

Becker discusses his experiences in WWII, and shares his family’s story of escaping the horrors of the Nazi regime and Kristallnacht.

Learn Hip Hop Dance with Albany Salsa — 4 pm at Arbor Hill/West Hill Branch

Kids and teens learn and practice hip hop dance moves with the help of instructors from Albany Salsa.

Film Showing of “Paper Clips” — 6 pm at Bach Branch

This documentary depicts middle school students from Tennessee who learn about the Holocaust by collecting six million paper clips–to represent the number of Jews killed by the Nazis–from around the world.
