Health Care Programs Coming Up at APL

There’s a lot of talk about health care these days and Albany Public Library can help shed light on the topic with three upcoming programs on the Affordable Care Act, impact of vision loss, and the U.S. health care system. All events are free and open to the public.


Health Insurance Reform: What’s Next and How Will it Affect Me? – Panel Seminar

Learn the latest information regarding the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Find out about choosing a health care plan that best fits your needs at this panel seminar featuring U.S. Congressman Paul Tonko and Juan Carlos Garcia of Healthy Capital District Initiative. Refreshments are provided.


“Going Blind: Coming Out of the Dark About Vision Loss” – Movie Screening and Panel Discussion

Veteran documentarian Joseph Lovett, who has experienced vision loss due to glaucoma, investigates how other people deal with their own vision challenges. After a screening of the film, members of the Capital District Chapter of the American Council of the Blind talk about the issue and answer questions from the audience. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch and the library will provide beverages. The program is presented by the American Council of the Blind and co-hosted by the Northeastern Association of the Blind and Albany Public Library.


“The Healthcare Movie” – Screening and Panel Discussion

This one-hour documentary compares the American and Canadian health care systems. A panel of experts then discusses the merits of the different systems. The program is co-sponsored by the Capital District Alliance for Universal Healthcare, Albany Medical College Student Physicians for a National Health Program, Single Payer New York, Solidarity Committee of the Capital District, Capital District Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program, Albany County League of Women Voters, and Albany Public Library.
