Albany Public Library Bookmobile
Mission Statement
The Albany Public Library Bookmobile provides library service to the residents of the City of Albany. The bookmobile is a unique service in that it brings library service into Albany neighborhoods and customers that are not in close proximity to existing library branches. The bookmobile is dedicated to providing library outreach service and is intended only as a supplement to traditional library services. The bookmobile provides library service to neighborhoods that are unserved or underserved due to economic, social, geographic, or other barriers. Empowering the underserved is the core of the library’s mission.
The primary functions of the Albany Public Library Bookmobile service are to:
- Introduce non-library customers to library services and collections
- Increase visibility of the library by generating a positive image throughout the City of Albany
- Visit daycares, senior housing, outreach sites, public and private schools, etc. and to present programs that provide information to people of all ages and abilities for their recreational and educational needs and to continually foster lifelong learning and free access to information
- Maintain a bookmobile schedule that demonstrates a balance between scheduled stops and special visits to outreach sites located throughout the City of Albany
