The APL Bookmobile ended its nearly five-year run at the end of June 2010. With the opening of five new branch libraries in just eight months, APL was able to expand service in several underserved neighborhoods in the city. The increase in service at the branches, combined with mounting budget pressures, need for staff at other locations, and an aging and somewhat inaccessible bus caused the library to cease operation of the Bookmobile.
The library is continuing a small outreach service to six old Bookmobile stops (senior centers and retirement communities) with monthly book delivery of requested items. We’re also offering to establish small deposit collections (of books and shelving) at these same sites.
We realize some customers will miss the Bookmobile. But, we hope you visit any of our seven full-service libraries in Albany and meet out wonderful librarians who are ready to assist you.
