Occupation/Special Skills: I worked in New Visions as a teacher helping the disabled people. I own alligators and caimans. I do educational shows many places in Albany.

Biography: I was born in the Bronx and raised part of my life in Puerto Rico. I came to Albany with my family in 1987. I have run for office myself, four times for library trustee. I am a member of many organizations.

Why I am running for the library board: I have been going to libraries since I was a small kid in the Bronx. I have been doing educational groups in the Albany library since the late 1990s. I want to be someone that will speak about everything, in the library and the board, for everyone in the community.


Mary (Mimi) Mounteer

Occupation/Special Skills: I have taught elementary education and special education in Albany and special education in Schenectady/Albany/Schoharie BOCES. I can interact with people of various cultural groups.

Biography: I grew up on Orange Street and used the Pruyn Library. I attended St. Mary's grammar school and Vincentian Institute high school. In high school and college, I was a class officer, co-editor of the yearbook and head of various groups. My seven children were introduced to the library at an early age.

Why I am running for the library board: I am a library trustee now, and the Albany Public Library system has always been an important part of our family life. Therefore, I hope to be able to help focus the library goals, keeping individuals, families, and employees interested in the function and materials of and for our library.


Roberta Sims

Occupation/Special Skills: I am a customer service associate for Cumberland Farms and enumerator for Census 2010. I also worked on committees at Bisghop Maginn High School.

Biography: I am a single parent who has volunteered in community and school activities and have a B.S. in business, management, and economics from Empire State College. I have held several temporary positions with the NYS Assembly, NYS Department of Education, and Hudson Valley Community Collge.

Why I am running for Library Trustee: This is an opportunity to continue my childhood interest in libraries. I will be able to ensure citizens of Albany will have a a safe place to grow intellectually. I plan to support the Albany Public Library system through a variety of communications avenues.


Robert Chaumont

Occupation/Special Skills: I have worked as a researcher, writer, and co-developer of "Citizen Friends -- USA & Africa," as a committee member of "A Village," and school bus driver.

Biography: I grew up near Columbia University in Manhattan and developed encyclopedic interests and a lifelong passion for libraries. I took graduate courses toward a master's degree in library science, but decided to open a bookstore in Buffalo instead. I also owned two bookstores near Syracuse University. My wife and I have three children.

Why I am running for Library Trustee: Vital libraries are so crucial to our quality of life, the maintenance of democracy, and the progress of our humanity. I want to contribute what I can to excellent libraries for Albany.


Esther Patterson

Esther Patterson

Occupation/Special Skills: I am an independent consultant, facilitator, and mentor.

Biography: A native of Brooklyn, I've lived in the city of Albany for 19 years. I am first a parent and have been an active member of the PTA for many years. I have worked with young people most of my professional career. I currently work as director of operations for a youth organization where my love of youth and education combine to create programs and assure services for some of our city's neediest youth.

Why I am running for Library Trustee: I believe that the community at large underutilizes public libraries. I have seen the revitalization of existing libraries and the building of the new. I would love to see our libraries operating at their maximum potential. My vision of libraries in partnership with the community is happening. I'd like to continue to serve the residents of Albany as their representative on the Library Board of Trustees.
