Library Partners with Youth FX

Albany Public Library (APL) is partnering with Youth FX for an entire year of free filmmaking programs for teens. Thanks to a Best Buy Community Grant, APL will offer workshops at multiple branches throughout 2016, including single-day and multi-week programs for ages 11 to 17.

“Teaching young people how to create their own content via video and audio is a fantastic way to empower them. It gives them a voice and a way to be heard. I love to think we are giving the kids of this city, our kids, that opportunity,” said APL Executive Director Scott Jarzombek.

Youth FX, based in Albany’s South End, is an award-winning organization committed to inspiring and empowering youth in the city’s under-resourced neighborhoods through a hands-on exploration of the creative and technical aspects of digital film making. During the 5-Hour Film Projects, teens will learn the basics of filmmaking and create a short film in just one day. In the multi-week workshops, participants will go deeper into the filmmaking process to develop, shoot, and edit complete films. For all programs, experienced Youth FX filmmakers will give hands-on lessons in writing, directing, filming, and editing using professional equipment. The finished films will be screened at a special event with free popcorn and prizes (date TBA).

Registration for Youth FX programs at APL can be made by calling 427-4310 or via the library’s online calendar.
